Guitar Army comprises articles and essays by John Sinclair, who managed the MC5 rock n roll band and led the White Panthers and the Rainbow Peoples Party during the late 1960s and early 1970s. John was sent to prison for marijuana possession in 1969. A concert and rally calling for his release included John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Seger, Stevie Wonder, Commander Cody, Bobby Seale, Ed Sanders, Jerry Rubin, and others. He gained his freedom in 1971 when the Michigan Supreme Court overturned the marijuana laws in response to his case. Guitar Army presents the vivid saga of the MC5 band, which had the national hit Kick Out the Jams in 1968. It is filled with Sinclairs colorful exhortations to the eras disaffected youth, which he felt were part of an emerging rainbow culture. Noted graphic artist Gary Grimshaw designed the book, which includes reproductions of over 100 photographs, drawings, and posters.
