Decanters can be used to store alcoholic or other beverages. Common spirits used in a decanter are:
Whisky
Bourbon
Rye
Rum
Tequila
Brandy
Cognac
Armagnac
Vodka
Gin
Wine can also be used in a decanter but because the alcohol evaporates in wine within a few days it is only good for short periods, such as a dinner party.
For all beverages and spirits decanters with lead, such as these (containing 24% lead crystal), should only store liquids for short periods so the lead does not get into the liquid. I use decanters primarily for home décor as they as incredibly beautiful for stand alone pieces and decant for special occasions vs long term storage.
For long term storage consider decanters without lead.
