Vintage Japanese hand-cast carrier pigeons with highly detailed plumage, heads, tails, feet, and especially fine detailed wings. One features traces of the original gilt and verdigris finish. Spread wings and life like angular heads and neck. Japanese pigeons possess small heads, a longish neck and tail.
Hand cast. Old American-Japanese garden collection.
Largest is approximately 6.5” x 9”
Green patina bird (I think the oldest) has a broken foot (at ankle and missing hind toe) and will need repaired. Foot is included.
Pigeons are a symbol of parental love and protection in Japanese art because they are one of the few birds that care for their elderly parents. They are also associated with peace and harmony, and are often depicted in Japanese paintings and bronze art.
