First American edition (print number not stated) hardcover copy of Being & Nothingness: An Essay on Phenomenological Ontology by Jean-Paul Sartre (The Philosophical Library, 1956). Translated and with introduction by Hazel E. Barnes. Vintage copy of Sartre’s opus of existentialist philosophy. A study of human psychology, the nature of being, social relations, and a wide range of other seminal ideas in the field. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with some mild rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges. Sun fading to spine. Boards are straight and clean with corners mildly bumped. Binding is firm and spine is straight. All pages clean and unmarked though slightly tanned. See photos for condition.
