Pisolite is a sedimentary rock primarily composed of pisoids,
which are concretionary grains, typically of calcium carbonate,
but may also contain other minerals like iron oxides, clays, or apatite.
These pisoids are spherical, resembling ooids, but are larger than
2 mm in diameter, with concentric layers that can reach 10 mm in diameter.
Pisolites often form in areas with calcareous oolite formation,
like shallow banks where cold oceanic waters flow onto warm waters.
