This Vintage David White Surveyors Transit is equipped to measure horizontal distances by observing a distant graduated rod through its exceptionally powerful telescope. To me, It looks like a space age steampunk robot that surveys the land.
This one is heavy and made with quality right here in the USA by David White Instruments. This Model 8114 is good to go to begin surveying or would make a great addition to your steampunk sculpture making. It can be somewhat disassembled and parts used to create whatever your imagination can dream up.
