They are a rare find from The Virginia Brewing Company, located in Roanoke, VA and are a great addition to any collection of antique bottles. The bottle type is specifically for beer, and it was manufactured during the pre-1900 time period in the United States. The company was founded in 1890 and closed in 1918. These bottles are blown in mold applied crown top, normally used from 1893 to 1905.
The Virginia Brewing Company headquarters was located at 1202-1218 Wise Avenue SE, Roanoke, Virginia. In Raymond Barnes' "History of the City of Roanoke", the local brewery was organized in December of 1889 by Herman Crueger, A. Roth, James R. Schick, M.M. Rogers, W.F. Penn, and George Gravatt, Jr., with a capital of $50,000. The grand opening was on August 14, 1890.
