An element of traditional weddings in Mexico is the giving of the Arras (or Arrhae), consisting of 13 gold coins. In many cases, tokens are used in place of actual gold coins, and this is one such token. The phrase “Recuerdo Matrimonial” translates as something like “Marriage Memory” or “Wedding Souvenir.” This is an older type, 16mm diameter and made of brass. One side shows the wedding couple in front of a church, and the other side shows clasped hands over a heart.
