These are amazing! They add height and an architectural element to a garden, are edible, easy to grow in a variety of climates, perennial and pest resistant! They are called walking onions because they put up a stalk that forms a topset, it eventually gets too heavy for the stalk and falls over, rooting in a new spot and hence “walks” across your yard!
The bulb in the ground, the green stalk and the topsets are all edible. They will grow anywhere but dry shade, including pots. They will survive heat and freezing temps. They are perennial but I find they grow big and beautiful for about 3-4 years, then they lose vigor and need to be replaced for maximum attractiveness. That’s easy, you will have big beautiful topsets to separate and grow anew.
The topset is somewhat like a clove of garlic, just separate the individual bulbs and plant pointy side up.
I will fill a box up to 4oz, which is in the range of 30 bulbs/cloves.
